The show moves the setting to the present day
Line of Events
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living by carrying out assassinations for the highest fee. He soon meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer who pursues him in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The novel “Day of the Jackal” was set in 1963 and involved an assassination attempt on the then President of France, Charles de Gaulle.
I love what they tried to do
A remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973). How does an assassin remain anonymous and undetectable in the modern world of security cameras, camera phones and social media, the internet and facial recognition, monitoring communications, digital transactions, etc. etc.
There is a lot to like in each episode
The attempt is imperfect, but please tell me any show or movie that has nailed it and I will watch it immediately. However, the narrative of the central story is interrupted by the inclusion of the family drama of the M16 agent, which feels like filler that was included to satisfy a formulaic script “principle”. I’m skipping these unnecessary scenes to keep the main story lines moving.
don’t mention the bullets
I’m halfway through episode 4 and appreciating the effort and intent. Also, loving the scarf nod to the original film and the update on the sniper rifle – the suspension of disbelief is cranked up to 11 that this is going through airport X-ray screening, not to mention the magical suppressor for supersonic bullets and the inability for anyone to smell a recently used firearm 🙂 Shhh… Anyway, imperfect, but I’ll watch it all the way through and appreciate the effort, and watch with interest the choices they made to tell a compelling story.
And I’ll watch anything with Charles Dance
Catching him in this was a bonus. A new season of “Silo” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. Check out our November calendar for more!
